ADULT ESSENCE

Die Ästhetisierung der Pubertät entspricht der Mystifizierung der Jugend. Niemand fetischisiert die Jugend hemmungsloser als Erwachsene. Der sentimentale Rückblick weckt nostalgische Gefühle. Man schwärmt vom totalen Erleben und von der totalen Hingabe der Kids – in der Freude wie im Schmerz. Vielleicht gerade darum, weil dies in der Normalwelt der Großen kaum Platz hat. Man bewundert die Intensität der gelebten Gefühle.

Unter Verwendung von Materialien und Szenen, die uns in die Kindheit zurückversetzen, bieten Beth Collar, Tonio Kröner, Kate Mackeson und Stefan Tcherepnin uns Erzählungen mit offenem Ende.

In Adult Essence revidieren die ausgestellten Künstler*innen die nostalgische Schablone der Pubertät auf vielfältige Weise, indem sie die an Kindheit und Intimität gebundene Ästhetik von einer vielschichtigen, aber fantastischen Quelle der Autorität trennen.

ADULT ESSENCE
The aestheticization of puberty corresponds to the mystification of youth. No one fetishizes youth more unrestrainedly than adults. The sentimental retrospective awakens nostalgic feelings. One raves about the total experience and total devotion of the kids - in joy as well as in pain. Perhaps precisely because this hardly has any place in the normal world of the grown-ups. One admires the intensity of the lived feelings.

Using materials and scenes that take us back to childhood, Beth Collar, Tonio Kröner, Kate Mackeson and Stefan Tcherepnin offer us open-ended narratives.

In Adult Essence, the exhibiting artists* revise the nostalgic template of adolescence in multiple ways, separating aesthetics tied to childhood and intimacy from a multilayered but fantastical source of authority.
